BARRY WINDSOR-SMITH:
NICK FURY, AGENT OF
S.H.I.E.L.D #12 Page 3

This 1969 page showcases the energetic style,
innovative design, and evident Kirby influence
characteristic of Windsor-Smith's earliest comics work.
Pen and Ink on bristol. Inking by BWS and Sid Greene
Image 9 1/8 x 14" SOLD

Note: Most of the figures on this page were inked on vellum
by BWS and taped over the whited-out original figures with
non-yellowing magic tape. This extensive reworking of
the art was done by Barry virtually overnight, when he
found the inking by Sid Greene to be unacceptable.
This adds to the charm of this vintage original, not only
because it is a rare example of BWS' own inking of his pencils,
but also because it offers an opportunity to compare, on
one page, how one how two different inkers approached the
same pencils. Panels 3, 5, and the first figure in panel 1
remain as inked by Greene. The rest of the figures are
inked by Windsor-Smith.
