BARRY WINDSOR-SMITH:
X-MEN #205 Unpublished Cover
This forceful, rare full-figure drawing by BWS
of WOLVERINE holding his claws aloft in a
snowy cityscape was the initial cover idea for
"Wounded Wolf" his classic story in X-MEN #205.
Epitomized by BWS' vigorous inking style of the
mid 1980's. It must be noted that no cover by BWS
was ever rejected in his years at Marvel.
Any "unpublished" cover work came about by
his own aesthetic choices, not the demands of
Marvel editors. BWS' reason for not using this
particular cover was simply that it reminded him
too much of his well-known cover for
DAREDEVIL #217, and he, as he says all the time,
hates repeating himself.
Signed BWS. Pencil, pen and ink on bristol.
9 1/2 x 14 3/4". SOLD
